Indiana shrine brings the Passion of Christ to life

The Shrine of Christ’s Passion is “the Gospel in 3-D”, says Lee Kemper, Relevant Radio Advancement Associate in Chicago. This breathtaking shrine in St. John, Indiana, is an oasis from the chaos of everyday life, and has welcomed over one million pilgrims since its opening in December 2007.

The Prayer Trail at the Shrine of Christ’s Passion is a half-mile winding walk through Jesus’ last days. Along the way, visitors find forty life-size bronze sculptures with moving music and audio narration. Pilgrims can truly immerse themselves in the sights, sounds, and emotions of Our Lord’s Passion. It’s an experience that has drawn pilgrims of all Christian denominations from across the nation.

Frank and Shirley Schilling are the founders of the shrine, pouring their heart and soul into creating the most tranquil and prayerful spaces one could imagine. On Friday, October 12, the Schillings will be awarded the Chicago Christ Brings Hope Award during a dinner at the Chicago Hilton Hotel on Michigan Avenue. The Christ Brings Hope Award is presented by Relevant Radio® to an American Catholic who has worked with extraordinary dedication to bring the good news and hope of Christ to all souls. The Schillings exemplify this calling, working diligently to touch hearts with a magnificent journey of faith and love.

Ten Chicagoland pro-life pregnancy centers will also be honored at the event. These organizations “give hope and dignity to women, help them to overcome fear, and demonstrate the unconditional love of Christ,” explains Kemper. They will be honored with the Caritas Dei award, which is presented to those who bring the love of God and concern for others into their ordinary lives and workplace.

The Shrine of Christ’s Passion, these ten pro-life organizations, and Relevant Radio have something important in common – all accompany souls along their journey. This might be a journey of faith, through pregnancy and motherhood, or a literal pilgrimage through the Stations of the Cross, but all have dedicated their apostolates to being with people and meeting them where they are and where they need hope and light.
