How business can be a force for good

Business is a noble pursuit that has the capacity to improve the world when entrepreneurship and innovation are placed at the service of humanity – that’s what Charles Koch believes. Koch is a successful businessman and speaker at this year’s Good Profit Conference, hosted by the Busch School of Business and the Napa Institute. The conference was held from October 4-6 at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C.

The Good Profit conference “seeks to empower leaders in business, academia, and community life, as well as those in political, religious and non-profit arenas, to contribute to a robust and fully humane economy,” says their website. Relevant Radio® was a Daily Sponsor of the conference, which featured many notable speakers from the Church, academia, and the business world, including Charles Koch, Cardinal Peter Turkson, Robert Nardelli, and Fr. Robert Spitzer.

“All the speakers were exceptional and inspiring, conference goers included many major business leaders and corporate executives, and I met seemingly countless very interesting people engaging great conversations,” said Sheila Liaugminas, host of A Closer LookTM on Relevant Radio.

According to the conference website, topics addressed included: What are the limits to profit as a measure of the health of a business? What is the difference between creating goods and services that customers value and freely choose, versus rent-seeking and exploitation? What is the relationship between entrepreneurship and the creativity of work? What is the business community’s duty to workers displaced by market innovation?
