On the second day of the National Novena to Our Lady of Good Help, we ask Our Blessed Mother to renew in the Church a love for the sacraments. Within many of our dioceses, baptism and marriage rates are falling, as people forget how crucial a sacramental life is to our emotional, physical, and especially spiritual wellbeing. We pray that our parish communities might return to Sunday Mass and the sacraments, and that others may join us in reordering our lives and priorities around what truly matters.
Mother of the Church, lead us to your beloved Son by way of the sacraments of His Church. Show parents and families the importance of baptism for their children, and renew in our culture a desire for sacramental marriage. Guide us, sinners, to embrace God’s mercy through the sacrament of Reconciliation, and renew our hunger for the Holy Eucharist. We know that we can change the culture by showing others how important the sacraments are to our lives through living out our baptismal promises, demonstrating the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and holding fast to our marriage vows. We ask that through our love and need of the sacraments, we may draw others nearer to Christ and His Church.
How to pray the novena:
- Pray the daily intention prayer below (check back each day for that day’s intention.)

Day Two: Renewal of Sacramental Life
“You received Holy Communion this morning, and that is well. But you must do more. Make a general confession…”
O Mary, you are the mother of the Church, and always direct us to the source of God’s love found in the sacraments. Please intercede for our Church today. Renew among the faithful a belief in Christ’s true presence in the Eucharist. Through your motherly intercession, draw the faithful back to the sacrament of Reconciliation, so they may know your Son’s love for them. As our mother, please keep inviting us to return to your son, and accompanying us on our pilgrimage to the kingdom of Heaven.
