Celebrating St. Joseph at the Chicago Lenten Luncheon

As we journey through the desert with Jesus during these 40 days of Lent, the Solemnity of St. Joseph was a bit of an oasis. March 19th is the day when the Church celebrates St. Joseph, husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary and patron of the Universal Church. And this year was especially festive, as some of the Relevant Radio® family gathered together in Chicago for a Lenten Luncheon to celebrate St. Joseph.

In addition to several Relevant Radio show hosts (including Patrick Madrid, Sheila Liaugminas, Fr. Richard Simon, and “The Miracle Hunter” Michael O’Neill) more than 900 listeners came together at the Drury Lane Ballroom in Oakbrook Terrace, a Chicago suburb. And though it was the last day of a long winter, the ballroom was filled with fresh flowers, smiling faces, and little pops of red as attendees dressed in the great saint’s honor.

Guests were welcomed by more than 40 organizations who joined us at resource tables during the reception hour to spread the word about the good work they are doing in the Chicago area and beyond. From Catholics schools, to crisis pregnancy centers, to long-time Relevant Radio sponsors, it was a wonderful display of all the ways that the Church is serving the local community in the Windy City.

Patrick Madrid, host of The Patrick Madrid Show, gave the keynote speech on what he has learned from St. Joseph.  His inspiring talk on the virtues of faithfulness, prudence, and purity that St. Joseph embodied was received by a rapt audience, and the crowd let out a collective gasp when a story he recounted took a surprising turn. Patrick also took time to meet with listeners during the event, taking pictures and signing books for a long line of supporters.

It was particularly special to have so many members of the Relevant Radio family together to wish Fr. Rocky a happy birthday, as he turned 60 years old this month! The crowd joined together to sing Happy Birthday to Relevant Radio’s Executive Director/CEO.

Our sincere thanks to all who came out to the Lenten Luncheon last week. Having the opportunity to hear directly from listeners what an impact Relevant Radio has made in their lives is inspiring and humbling. Thank you for being part of the Relevant Radio family and for joining with us to honor the great St. Joseph!
