Memorial of St. Clare of Assisi, 1194-1253; moved by the preaching of St. Francis, who placed her in a convent; sixteen days later, her sister Agnes joined her, and others followed; they lived a simple life of great poverty, austerity, and complete seclusion from the world; Clare came from prayer, it was said, with her face so shining it dazzled those about her.
