Rosary Novena Day 4: Why Are You On Pilgrimage?

What is the best advice for a pilgrim?

To know why you are going!

Often before a pilgrimage, pilgrims will be advised to clarify exactly what they are praying for. Sometimes they will even write it down before they go and keep it in their pockets. Why do this?

Pilgrimages are often difficult. Knowing why they are going on pilgrimage can keep them motivated to finish amidst difficulties and frustrations. It helps to focus their attention, keeps the pilgrimage focused on God, and helps them to hear God’s voice.

So, as we begin our 54-Day Rosary Novena – a type of spiritual pilgrimage – do you know why you are doing this novena? Do you know what you are praying for?

I want to challenge you to take 5 minutes right now and write down your prayer intention on a piece of paper, fold it up, and put it in your wallet or your Bible. Then, when you are tempted to not pray a Rosary that day you can pull open that piece of paper, remember your intention, and jump back into it.

And – even better – this slip of paper can become a reminder of how God answers your prayers! Years ago I started writing down all of my prayers that were answered – miracles big and small. Today, as that list starts to grow longer and longer, it’s a witness to God’s mercy and love.
