Do you feel unjustly targeted by the left because of your beliefs? Do you experience rejection or anger from others because of your convictions? There is a growing trend of hatred and bias towards traditional Catholics from the media and progressive left.
In this episode of The Drew Mariani Show, Drew talks with Austin Ruse about the growing perception among political and academic elites that conservative Christians, especially Catholics, are seen as extremists or dangerous. Drew references an article written by Austin Ruse titled “The Black Legend of Christian Brutes.”
A primary discussion point is a scholarly paper published in the journal Political Behavior titled “Christian Nationalism and Political Violence, Victimhood, Racial Identity, Conspiracy, and Support for Capital Attacks.” The paper argues a correlation between Christian nationalism and political violence, branding such nationalists as racist, anti-immigration, and anti-Islamic, among other claims.
Drew points out that most of the violence in the U.S. occurs in cities run by Democrats and challenges the notion of conservative Christians inciting violence.
Austin Ruse, the president of the Center for Family and Human Rights, discusses the “Black Legend” concept historically tied to the Spanish. He observes a similar demonization of Christians today, especially those who hold certain political beliefs. He and Drew touch upon how terms like “Christian nationalists” or “MAGA extremists” have been used broadly to label conservatives or Republicans.
They also delve into the role of media, educational institutions, and even entities like the FBI in shaping these perceptions. Drew brings up incidents where symbols like the American flag are now associated with conservatism to the point that some refuse to wear or display them. You may be afraid to pray in public or wear patriotic shirts for fear of how others might judge you.
Ruse suggests that you should be fearless in expressing your faith and beliefs! Don’t be afraid to make the sign of the Cross in public. You can take a bold stand and be a witness for Christ in today’s world.
