“My Husband Has Time for His Friends, But Not for Me” (Marriage Unhindered)

Sometimes, marriage is really hard. Doug Hinderer is here to help and to give you hope. It’s another powerful episode of Marriage Unhindered.

We’re here to talk about the real, messy, beautiful parts of marriage and how to find some sanctity and joy in it all. ✨

Today, we had a heartfelt call from Sandra in Alabama. She’s been with her husband for 23 years, married for 14, but things have gotten rough lately. Her husband is constantly on his phone, more interested in texting his friends than spending time with her and their two boys. 😢📱

Sandra shared how she confronted him in 2021, saying she wasn’t happy and needed more from him. His response? “Find someone else who will give you the attention you need because I’m not it.” Ouch. 💔 Despite her efforts, especially after his dad passed away last year, he’s just become more distant. Her 14-year-old son is now also dealing with anger towards his dad, which makes everything even harder.

Doug’s advice was like a warm hug. He reminded Sandra that she’s not alone – many women are in similar boats. He called her situation a “white martyrdom” – loving someone who doesn’t love back. Doug suggested Sandra keep praying for her husband, because his behavior shows he’s deeply broken inside. 🙏

Doug also encouraged Sandra to focus on the positives, no matter how small, and let her husband know she appreciates those things. This isn’t easy, but it can help keep the family bond strong, especially for the kids. He emphasized how important it is for Sandra to show her boys what unconditional love looks like, even when it’s not returned. 💕🌟

Even when marriage feels like a lonely road, there’s hope, strength, and a community of support out there.
