We want to eat until we are full. Hunger is one of our natural desires because we require sustenance to live. It says in the Old Testament that the Israelite people, hungry in the desert, desired to return to slavery because there, they at least had enough to eat. They would rather die full slaves than as hungry pilgrims.
Sr. Josephine Garrett spoke to the fact that it is natural to be hungry, but very often we deal with hunger, spiritual hunger, incorrectly. We should be hungry for the Lord and hungry for healing, but satiating those pangs begins with a hunger for repentance.
