Joseph: a Catholic who’s been away from the Church, writes in with a big question: he’s ready to come back to his faith, but his Protestant wife isn’t on board. He wants to know how to tackle her questions and if their wedding (done by her non-denominational dad, who’s an online-ordained minister) needs to be “blessed” by the Church so he can receive the Eucharist. Let’s just say Patrick is here for it with solid advice and resources!
Step 1: Marriage 💍
Patrick says that, as a Catholic, Joseph needs his marriage “convalidated” (basically getting it officially recognized or “blessed” by the Church). It’s a simple process: just talk to a parish priest who can help with the paperwork.
Step 2: Equip Yourself, Joseph! 📚💪
Since Joseph wants to be able to answer his wife’s questions about the Catholic faith, Patrick shares a great list of beginner resources:
Patrick’s Books: Covering topics like salvation, the Eucharist, Mary, and more. Perfect for getting the basics.
Beginning Apologetics Series: These mini-booklets by Jim Burnham and Fr. Frank Chacon cover specific topics (think “Once Saved, Always Saved” and “Just Jesus and the Bible”).
Surprised by Truth: This book of conversion stories has helped a lot of non-Catholics understand what’s so compelling about Catholicism. Patrick complied it together!
Step 3: Share the Relevant Radio Love 🎙️
Patrick’s final tip? Try listening to Relevant Radio together. We’ve got loads of episodes on Protestant-Catholic debates, and our YouTube channel has easy-to-access clips on similar topics.
The bottom line? Patrick tells Joseph to keep focused on his own journey back and trust that his wife may follow with time, prayer, and patience. God works through all things, so stay steady, and maybe they’ll both be on this faith journey together soon!
