Who’s your favorite saint? Do you turn to them often?
Drew and Fr. Rocky made All Saints’ Day extra fun with a little guessing game. Fr. Rocky shared clues about his favorite saints, and listeners had to figure out who he was talking about. Let’s relive the highlights from some of the saints they talked about. Get ready to test your saint smarts!
“It’s a sin!”
Fr. Rocky started with a story about St. Maria Goretti, the young girl who bravely resisted her attacker at just 12 years old. When he tried to take advantage of her, Maria stood her ground, saying, “No, it’s a sin.” Tragically, she was killed, but before she passed, she forgave him. Years later, he attended her canonization! Now that’s forgiveness in action.
“I just want God!”
Next up, the quote “I want God” came from young Francisco, one of the Fatima visionaries. Even as a little kid, he only had one thing on his mind: wanting to be close to God. He didn’t want a career or even fame; he just wanted to be with God. Inspiring!
“Viva Cristo Rey!”
Fr. Rocky then brought up José Sánchez del Río, the teen martyr from Mexico who, during the Mexican Revolution, died proclaiming “Viva Cristo Rey!” (Long live Christ the King!). He refused to deny his faith, even as a young kid, and it cost him his life.
“Take me!”
This one was all about St. Maximilian Kolbe, who volunteered to take another prisoner’s place in Auschwitz. When someone in the death camp was chosen to be executed, Kolbe offered himself instead. And he did it without a second thought, total selflessness.
“Always go forward, never turn back.”
Another famous line, this one from St. Junipero Serra. This missionary priest went all over California setting up missions and spreading the Gospel. His motto? Keep moving forward, no matter what.
“Be not afraid.”
If you guessed St. John Paul II, you’re right! The Polish pope inspired millions when he boldly told the world to “Be not afraid.” He knew about fear: growing up in a communist regime and fighting for his faith. His confidence was contagious, and he left a lasting mark on the Church.
“May you seek Christ.”
This one goes to St. Josemaría Escrivá, the founder of Opus Dei. He encouraged people to look for Christ everywhere in their everyday lives. Fr. Rocky loved this one since it’s also Relevant Radio’s mission: bringing Christ to the world.
“Do whatever he tells you.”
Straight from the Blessed Virgin Mary at the wedding in Cana. When they ran out of wine, she told the servants to listen to Jesus, leading to the first miracle. Classic advice that still holds up: do what He tells you!
Not a single word.
This silent saint? St. Joseph. Yep, the man who never said a word in Scripture but lived a life full of quiet strength and obedience. Sometimes, no words are needed.
So, remember to turn to these saints who are always waiting to intercede for you. 😇
