As Christians, we can talk a lot about ‘carrying our cross.’
And with good reason! Jesus Himself told us to pick up our cross daily and follow Him. (Luke 9:23)
But remember: we don’t need to carry it alone! Even Jesus didn’t carry His cross alone. He had Simon of Cyrene to help Him. And now, after the resurrection, Jesus helps us carry our crosses. He makes this promise in the Fifth Promise of the Sacred Heart:
“I will bestow abundant blessings upon all their undertakings.”
Imagine that! Jesus is telling us that He wants to help us with our plans, our work, our vocations, and our daily responsibilities. He wants to give us blessings in our daily lives and work.
So far in this novena, we’ve talked about what Jesus asks of us: to make sacrifices, to follow His will, to spend time with Him in prayer, and to let Him into our hearts. Jesus asks those things of us so that He might give us Himself – the greatest gift of all!
Think of the Prodigal Son. When he finally returns home, the Father welcomes him with joy. He gives him the finest robe and prepares a feast. The Father does not hold back! He gives the best to his son. This is what Jesus promises to do for us.
His Sacred Heart offers abundant blessings. Trust Him with your work, your hopes, and your everyday struggles. He sees it all, and walks with you every step of the way.
