Okay, so here’s the question Claudine asked Fr. Simon: 👉 If Jesus paid the debt of our sin on the Cross and said, “It is finished,” then what exactly are angels doing to help us get to heaven?
Fr. Simon points out that angels are all over the Bible, from the Old Testament to Revelation. They’re active messengers, helpers, protectors. 📖 Remember St. Peter getting busted out of prison by an angel? Even Jesus interacted with angels. So, if He worked with them, why wouldn’t we?
Yes, Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross redeemed us entirely. But…👉 God loves to share His work with His creatures.
That means:
-Angels help proclaim and protect the Gospel.
-Saints intercede and continue their important mission from Heaven.
-We become His missionaries on Earth.
Fr. Simon reminds us that Jesus doesn’t work alone. He’s chosen to work through us… and through angels and saints.
“It is Finished”… Wait, What Exactly Was Finished?
Fr. Simon explains how Jesus’ death and the Last Supper are one single sacrifice, not two separate events.
Here’s the timeline:
-The Last Supper was Thursday night.
-But in Jewish time, Friday starts at sundown.
-So, the Supper and the Cross happened on the same day.
-Jesus drank three cups of wine at the Last Supper, then paused.
-On the Cross, He takes the fourth cup (the sour wine). “It is finished.”
-That “finished” isn’t just “I’m done.” It means the sacrifice is fulfilled.
And that one sacrifice is what we participate in at every single Mass. Father reassures you that it’s not a new sacrifice or a do-over. It’s the same sacrifice extended through time and space.
Angels in the Economy of Salvation
Fr. Simon wraps it up like this:
✅ Yes, Jesus paid it all.
✅ But the work of applying that salvation to each heart is an ongoing mission.
✅ And angels play a key part.
We’re all caught up in God’s mysterious, beautiful, crazy-generous plan.
God’s not a solo act. He wants a heavenly team to carry out His love.
And that includes… you.
