Embracing Belief in the Eucharist (The Drew Mariani Show)

On The Drew Mariani Show, Drew sits down with Msgr. Robert Dempsey to talk about one of the most important teachings of the Catholic faith: the True Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

Msgr. Dempsey explains this has always been the belief of the Church since the words of Christ at the Last Supper, “This is my body, this is my blood.” He contrasts the Catholic belief in transubstantiation with Protestant ideas like consubstantiation, stressing that only the Catholic and Orthodox faiths hold that the bread and wine are completely transformed into Christ Himself.

Together, they explore how the Eucharist makes present the one sacrifice of Calvary, allows us a foretaste of the Resurrection, and unites us to Christ’s self-offering. Msgr. Dempsey recalls the teaching of St. Thomas Aquinas in the Corpus Christi liturgy, which beautifully sums up the mystery.

They also touch on John 6 and the need to take Christ at His word. Monsignor shares a personal experience of Eucharistic adoration where he powerfully sensed God’s loving presence. Finally, he encourages Catholics to model belief in the Real Presence through reverence, devotion, and the gestures of faith at Mass, especially for children and those who may have drifted away.

The message is clear: to believe in the Eucharist is to embrace the heart of our faith, for in the Host we truly meet the risen Jesus.
