If you’ve ever found yourself face-planting into the same temptation again and wondering “Why am I struggling so much with this?!”, this podcast episode of The Inner Life with Patrick Conley and Fr. John Paul Erickson is like spiritual CPR for your soul. ✝️ Be sure to catch the whole hour here!
💔 Mary’s Call “I Picture Jesus Crying…”
Mary from Minnesota calls in and shares spiritual wisdom. She says when she’s tempted, she pauses in that tiny window before giving in; she imagines Jesus’ eyes filling with tears because of how her sin wounds Him.
She says: “I so don’t want to hurt Jesus… because I love Him.”
Fr. John Paul says that’s exactly it: resisting sin is about filling your mind with the good. Think of the eyes of Jesus, the Cross, and His merciful love. That image can be your secret weapon.
📵 Rachel’s Call: “I Cut. It. OFF.”
Next up: Rachel from Florida shares an incredible strategy.
She battled impurity since she was 17, and she eventually decided to:
❌ Get rid of the internet at home
📞 Get a flip phone (yes, they still exist)
She even called the Amish to get it custom disabled
She literally took Jesus at His word:
“If your right hand causes you to sin… cut it off.” (Matthew 5:30)
She got victory… not overnight, not easily, but through sweat, tears, and sacrifice.
📢 Sometimes holiness means taking a chainsaw to your digital life.
🚨 Real Talk:
We love to make excuses:
“I need my phone for work!”
“I just opened Instagram for five seconds!”
“It’s not that bad…”
Fr. Erickson reminds us that if you were addicted to alcohol, you wouldn’t keep a bottle in your living room. It’s the same with sin; you can’t flirt with it and expect to win.
