Discerning Single Life (Morning Air)

On Morning Air, John Morales welcomes Elizabeth Busby, licensed marriage and family therapist and content specialist for the Theology of the Body Institute, to discuss how to discern single life and discover God’s plan for your vocation. Elizabeth explains that modern dating often treats relationships like a pastime rather than a discernment of marriage, reminding you that dating should be rooted in prayer, purpose, and chastity.

She encourages singles to stay close to God through the sacraments, cultivate hope, and remain open to His timing – because, as John Morales shares from personal experience, “you can meet your future spouse in the back of church when you least expect it.” Elisabeth Busby also addresses what it means to be called to chaste single life or consecrated virginity, describing these as unique and joyful vocations that bring Christ’s light into the world.

Her advice for discernment?

-Know who the Father is and trust His love for you.

-Pay attention to your desires, which often reveal God’s call.

-Build your daily schedule around prayer, not work.

-Seek guidance from a trusted spiritual director or confessor.

Whether you’re single, dating, or still unsure of your calling, Elisabeth reminds you that God’s plan always leads to peace, joy, and fruitfulness – and that discernment begins by resting in His love.
