Today, the Church celebrates the feast of St. Catherine of Sienna. She is the patroness of a Church in crisis for her efforts in convincing Pope Gregory XI to return to Rome from Avignon. In 1970, Pope Paul VI named St. Catherine of Sienna, a Doctor of the Church.
