Timmerie takes us on a journey into the life and legacy of Pope St. John Paul II, and honestly? It’s inspiring, challenging, and it will inspire you to grow in holiness!
She kicks things off with a personal family story about her uncle, a deacon, who met JPII and had one of those “this-is-holy-ground” moments. Because, let’s face it, meeting JPII was probably like meeting a living saint… oh wait, he actually was one.
Then she gets into his early years, which were not easy. The man lost his mom, brother, and dad before the age of 21. Then came World War II and Communism, which, instead of crushing him, only refined him like gold in fire. He secretly studied for the priesthood, acted in underground plays to preserve culture (because dictators hate beauty), and somehow still radiated joy.
Fast forward to his epic papacy, and we see JPII as a symbol of freedom, hope, and truth. He ministered to young people by taking them camping (because theology hits different around a campfire). He wasn’t afraid to stand up to oppressive regimes, counsel struggling couples, and call people to radical holiness.
Timmerie mentions his unwavering dedication to truth and freedom, showing how he lived out the Gospel with courage, love, and a surprising amount of hiking trips. If you’ve ever wondered what it means to live a heroic life of faith, JPII is your example.
So, how has he inspired you? Have a favorite JPII moment? Or maybe just a favorite JPII quote (because the man had so many good ones)?
