Childlike Faith

If you have been around kids long enough you know that they are full of energy and that their joy and laughter is contagious. Their imaginations are vast and their ability to move on from disappointment quickly. There are many days I wonder how my two year old can keep going long past her nap and push through to bedtime without a drop of caffeine, while it takes me a full two cups of coffee just to make it to lunch.

Children’s prayers are pure and filled with great faith. They don’t worry about the future or dwell in the past; they simply live in the present. They are filled with great hope and aren’t consumed or fretting about money or politics. They take each day as it comes with excitement and can turn anything into fun with a little imagination.

Throughout the course of the year during Mass we hear several different passages talking about the faith of a child. The Bible is filled with references to becoming like a child, humbling ourselves like a child, accepting the Kingdom of God like a child and receiving a child. We hear of the childlike faith that we too must embrace to live lives of holiness and sanctity.

With the Advent season now approaching a few weeks away; have we ever stopped to contemplate Christ as a child? Sure, we will set up our nativity scenes and gaze upon pictures of Mary holding him. But have we thought about his innocence, his trust, his joy, his faith. His love for Mary and Joseph, his dependence on them, his fullness of life, his awe and wonder at the world around him. The Advent season is one to prepare for the celebration of the Incarnation, God becoming flesh, Jesus being born. Between the shopping, baking and gift wrapping, do we really stop to contemplate Christ in the greatness of his littleness.

In many churches you may notice the statue of a young child Jesus, one hand holding a globe and the other extended in a blessing. The original statue of the Infant of Prague was a gift for a royal wedding from a Spanish princess to her Austrian royal cousin. The statue is now preserved and kept in a Carmelite church in Prague. Over the centuries, many miracles have occurred through the intercession of the Infant child, which has inspired more devotion to the child Jesus.

During this Relevant Radio Join the Family Pledge Drive, for a gift of $600 or more you will receive a statue of the Infant of Prague. The statue is six inches tall and Relevant Radio branded with a stamp on the bottom. This makes for a beautiful Christmas gift, birthday gift or a gift to your family as you prepare and reflect during the upcoming Advent season. A reminder to have in our homes during this holy time of year to keep our minds and hearts focused on the Christ child and the celebration that we are preparing for.

“Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.” Then he embraced them and blessed them, placing his hands on them.  Mk 10:14-16
