Are you ready for Lent?
On this episode of Morning Air, John Morales chats with Danielle Bean about a refreshingly simple approach to this holy season. Let’s be honest, we don’t need another “New Year’s resolution” for our spiritual lives that leaves us exhausted by week two.
Less Stress, More Jesus.
Danielle reminds us that Lent isn’t a self-improvement plan. It’s not about proving to God (or ourselves) how hardcore we can be at fasting, praying, and almsgiving. Instead, Lent is an invitation: a chance to grow closer to Jesus in small, meaningful ways.
So, How Do We Do That? 🤔
1️⃣ Pick One Small Thing in Each Category
-Prayer: Add one extra moment of prayer daily: maybe a Morning Offering or a short Divine Mercy Chaplet (hey, the Relevant Radio app can help with that! 😉).
-Fasting: It’s not dieting, people! 🍽️ Instead, ask God what He wants you to give up. Maybe it’s social media or, as Gary Zimak suggested, worry!
-Almsgiving: It’s not just about writing a check. Look around: who in your life could use a visit, a phone call, or a helping hand? Nursing homes are filled with people longing for company. 💛
2️⃣ Let Go of Perfectionism
If you miss a day, don’t quit! God’s invitation is always open. Just start again.
Lent isn’t about showing off; it’s about showing up for Jesus.
3️⃣ Make It Personal
What does your relationship with God need? Ask Him. Spend some quiet time in prayer or adoration, and He’ll let you know.
John and Danielle even bring up St. Thérèse’s “little way”: a perfect reminder that small, consistent sacrifices are worth more than grand gestures that fade fast.
Bottom Line: Don’t Overcomplicate It!
💡 Keep it simple. Keep it meaningful. Keep your eyes on Jesus. That’s how you win at Lent. 🏆
Now, what’s your one small thing for this Lent?”
