Can you swim in the Ocean of Mercy?
Yes – but first you have to find it! What is the Ocean of Mercy? It’s how Jesus describes His Sacred Heart.
Do you need mercy? I know I do. We’ve all had moments where we know we didn’t live up to what Jesus wanted us to do. Even St. Margaret Mary Alacoque.
Before she entered the Visitation convent, she knew she was being called to religious life. But for a time, she hesitated. She attended dances, wore fine clothes, and delayed her promise to enter the convent.
Then Jesus appeared to her wounded and hurt. He reminded her of the promise she had made years earlier when He healed her from illness. That one night changed everything.
St. Margaret Mary recognized her distractions for what they were: a turning away from the love of Jesus. But Jesus did not punish her. Jesus showed her mercy. He welcomed her back – personally – and called her deeper into His love!
Later, He would reveal to her the Sixth Promise of the Sacred Heart:
“Sinners will find in my Heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy.”
If you’ve strayed, or someone in your family has, don’t be afraid. Jesus wants to offer healing and mercy. This is the same mercy we see in the Gospels. Think of the woman caught in adultery, the Good Thief on the cross, or Peter – even after he denied Jesus three times!
Jesus did not push them away. He forgave them, loved them, and welcomed them back. And He will do that for us today, if we only ask.
