Is it okay if my faith is tepid?
First, we need to know what the word “tepid” means! I looked it up and it means “moderately warm; neither hot nor cold.” Someone has a ‘tepid’ faith if they don’t take it too seriously.
We don’t need to guess if it’s okay! God told us the answer in Revelation 3:16. It says God will spit those of lukewarm faith out of His mouth. What an image!
How do we make sure our faith is on fire? That we are ‘all-in’ for Jesus? God also gave us the answer to that! It’s exactly what happened to Fr. Claude La Colombière when he met St. Margaret Mary Alacoque.
In 1675, Fr. Claude was sent to serve as chaplain for the Visitation sisters. At the time, St. Margaret Mary was misunderstood and even mocked for her visions of Jesus. But Fr. Claude listened patiently to her.
She told him everything Jesus had revealed to her. Something in her courage, humility, and faith struck a chord with him. He didn’t just believe her, his faith caught fire!
Before meeting her, Fr. Claude was a faithful priest. Afterward, he became a passionate voice spreading the Sacred Heart devotion across France. He preached it boldly and defended it fiercely.
Jesus makes this promise to anyone who turns to His Heart:
“Tepid souls shall become fervent.”
