Do you ever make plans for the weekend? And – if they’re plans with someone you love – do you look forward to them all week?
When you love someone, you spend time with them! Whether it’s a couple’s date night or a friend’s vacation together. Unfortunately, we sometimes don’t spend time with the Person who we should love above all others: Jesus!
This is exactly what Jesus talked to St. Margaret Mary about on July 2, 1674.
On that day, during adoration on the Feast of Corpus Christi, Jesus appeared to St. Margaret Mary for a third time. In the vision, Jesus told her how much our indifference to the Eucharist hurts Him.
As His wounds glowed like the sun, Jesus pointed to His Heart and said to her:
“Make reparation for the coldness and contempt with which I am treated in the sacrament of My love while I am waiting in the tabernacle.”
Imagine how painful that must be for Jesus, after all He endured for each one of us. And imagine how hard it must have been for St. Margaret Mary to hear!
The indifference to the Blessed Sacrament hurts Jesus deeply.
This vision is the origin of the First Fridays Devotion. It’s simple, but not easy: go to Mass and receive communion every first Friday of the month for nine consecutive months. The best way to show that you love the Eucharist is to receive Him!
