Rosary Novena Day 47: “Rushing Frenetically”

Have you noticed that life has gotten faster?

Instead of reading newspapers, we watch short videos on social media. Instead of writing letters, we text each other short sentences. It seems as if all of life is getting louder and faster. It can be exhausting!

Our devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus can help with this!

Since Pope Leo XIII’s consecration of the world to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1899, every pope has either supported or formally renewed the consecration. In October 2024, Pope Francis released an encyclical on the Sacred Heart: Dilexit nos.

Why should we focus on the Sacred Heart today? Pope Francis explains:

“The symbol of the heart has often been used to express the love of Jesus Christ. Some have questioned whether this symbol is still meaningful today. Yet living as we do in an age of superficiality, rushing frenetically from one thing to another without really knowing why, and ending up as insatiable consumers and slaves to the mechanisms of a market unconcerned about the deeper meaning of our lives, all of us need to rediscover the importance of the heart.”

Wow! What a beautiful reminder of the power of our faith! When the world draws us away from God through distraction and temptation, the Sacred Heart can remind us of why we exist in the first place. We are made to know and love God – not just to have the latest gadget!

The Sacred Heart of Jesus is a reminder of why God made us. And it’s an antidote to a life of constantly rushing, where we miss what is most important: our relationship with God.
