Do you know who St. Margaret Mary Alacoque is?
By now, she should be a close personal friend! We’ve traveled with her for almost two months, learning about her childhood, her struggles with family, pursuit of her vocation, and ultimately the visions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. After learning about her whole life, what would you say was the most important part?
If there’s one thread that runs through St. Margaret Mary’s life, it’s this: she gave herself completely to Jesus and to others.
Her illness didn’t make her bitter, it taught her to pray. Her family pressure didn’t crush her, it taught her to listen for God’s voice. Even when other nuns doubted her visions, she kept returning to Jesus, quietly and patiently.
That same kind of faithful self-gift is what family life still requires today.
Jesus asks every one of us to be patient, to sacrifice for others, and to love. Day in and day out, in small ways that add up to sainthood. The saints aren’t superhumans. They’re people just like you and me. They simply follow the Lord diligently over a lifetime. Step by step, day by day.
That’s what made St. Margaret Mary extraordinary. She said “yes” to God in those ordinary moments – returning over and over to Jesus’ Sacred Heart.
