Today is the day: the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus!

Congratulations! It’s not easy to complete a novena, much less a 54-Day Novena! We have learned about the history of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the saints who brought us this devotion, and what it means for our lives today.

When we start a journey, we often think about when we’ll reach the finish line. Whether it’s a work project, a race, or reading a book, we often wonder when we’ll be finished.

So what is the ‘finish line’ for the Devotion to the Sacred Heart? Well, in one sense, it’s today! You are consecrating your family to the Sacred Heart by finishing this novena and exposing and honoring an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In another sense, it’s our entire lives. The Sacred Heart is an inexhaustible source of mercy and an incredibly effective way to grow closer to Jesus. We should always be drawing closer to Jesus – throughout our entire lives!

If you want to keep growing in your devotion to the Sacred Heart, there are four steps I recommend:

First, put up an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in your home.

Second, honor it by saying a prayer to the Sacred Heart daily.

Third, practice the First Fridays devotion as detailed in the Twelve Promises of the Sacred Heart, receiving communion on the month’s first Friday for nine consecutive months.
