Your guardian angel isn’t simply there to protect you from accidents. His greatest mission is much bigger: helping you get to Heaven.
On Trending with Timmerie, Timmerie spoke with Father Eusebius Schwald, ORC about the remarkable role guardian angels play in our spiritual lives. Unlike the saints, who intercede for us before God, angels can also be sent by God to intervene and assist us.
“The guardian angel is our personal angel who is always at our side,” Father Eusebius explained.
That help is especially important in spiritual warfare. Timmerie pointed to St. Paul’s warning that our battle is not merely against “flesh and blood,” but against spiritual forces seeking to draw us away from God.
Father Eusebius explained that if we could see the spiritual attacks happening around us, “We would be shocked.” Our guardian angels defend us against evil and strengthen us to choose God.
They can also help us grow in holiness in surprisingly practical ways. Father Eusebius said an angel might guide someone toward Scripture, help illuminate its meaning, bring people together, or even lead someone to hear the right radio message at the right time.
But that relationship calls for our cooperation.
“God assigned him to me,” Father Eusebius said. “He wants my friendship with that angel.”
Your guardian angel has been given to you by God as a companion on the road to holiness. Talk to him. Ask for his help. And remember that his ultimate concern isn’t simply keeping you comfortable or safe – it’s helping lead your soul to God.
