Can praying the Rosary really change the course of history? According to Fr. Rocky, it already has! On The Drew Mariani Show, Drew welcomes Fr. Rocky to explore the power of the Rosary, the miraculous Battle of Lepanto, and why devotion to the Blessed Mother brings us closer to Jesus.
Father Rocky takes listeners back to October 7, 1571, when Christian forces faced the Ottoman fleet at the Battle of Lepanto. Despite overwhelming odds, the Christian fleet emerged victorious. Pope St. Pius V had called Catholics everywhere to pray the Rosary, uniting a divided Church in a common cause.
Father Rocky explains that the victory wasn’t simply military. It demonstrated the extraordinary power of unity through prayer. The pope, who had been praying during the battle, was reportedly given knowledge of the victory before news could reach Rome. The Church continues to commemorate this historic event on the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.
But why turn to Mary when we can pray directly to Jesus?
“Absolutely. Go straight to Jesus. If that works for you, do that. I just have a shortcut,” Father Rocky tells Drew.
He explains that honoring Mary never takes anything away from Christ. Instead, loving His mother draws us closer to Him. Just as praising someone’s mother brings that person joy, honoring the Blessed Mother is a beautiful expression of love for Jesus.
Father Rocky also addresses the objection that repeating the Hail Mary is meaningless. Using humorous examples from football games and everyday family life, he illustrates how repetition can express genuine love, urgency, and devotion.
The conversation offers a beautiful reminder that the Rosary is more than a repeated prayer. It’s an invitation to meditate on the life of Christ, seek Mary’s intercession, and unite our hearts with Catholics around the world.
