Are you interested in becoming a Catholic? If so, you are among the tens of thousands of souls who seek to join the Catholic Church every year! Did you know that the Catholic Church is the largest church in the world, with over 1 billion members worldwide?
The word “catholic” is from the Greek word “katholikos”, meaning “universal.” The Catholic Church is indeed a universal church and exists in every country on every habitable continent, is made up of all cultures, and embraces all of humanity and every single person on the earth. Christ came for all and established His Church for everyone as a whole and for each of us individually.
In its visible form, the Catholic Church is led by the Pope in Rome, who is also lovingly called the “Holy Father” because he serves as the representative of Jesus Christ. From there, the Church throughout the world is divided up into geographical regions called dioceses, which are headed by bishops who are united to the Pope. These dioceses in turn are divided into parishes, which are served by priests, otherwise known as “pastors.”
Each parish has an RCIA program, which stands for the “Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.” This program will teach you what you need to know and prepares you for the sacraments necessary for entry into the Catholic Church.
Here are some initial steps you can take to begin your journey:
- Pray every day that God will make His will known to you.
- Find a Catholic Church in your area and discuss your desire to join the Catholic Church with the pastor.
- Enroll in the RCIA program.
It’s an exciting time to be a Catholic! Our biggest highlight as Catholics is the gift of being able to receive Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, His body, blood, soul, and divinity. This is the greatest blessing and joy for us, and we are excited to share that joy with you! We will be sure to keep you in our prayers as you begin your journey.
