Bishop Morlino – a brief remembrance, by Father Rocky

On  Saturday, November 24, in the vespers of the great Feast of Christ the King, our good friend and generous supporter, Bishop Robert Morlino of Madison, Wisconsin, passed on to his eternal reward due to a cardiac event.  Bishop Morlino, 71, had been in poor health for some years, but you never would have known it because he never complained, and always had a smile and encouraging word for everyone he met.  He was a cheerful person with bright eyes and a winning smile.  His joy was immense the night he received the “Christ Brings Hope Award” from Relevant Radio on the Feast of St. Joseph, March 19, 2015.

Bishop Morlino was a big fan of Relevant Radio and early supporter.  The tale is told that during our startup he donated one million dollars to Relevant Radio, a gift that raised eyebrows at the time.  But a week or two later, an elderly woman passed away and left the diocese two million dollars, and once again everyone realized that you can’t outdo God in generosity.  During his previous assignment as Bishop of Helena, Mt, he was supportive of the startup of Relevant Radio affiliate stations in Bozeman and Helena.

Bishop Morlino will be remembered and cherished for his kindly fatherly heart for the poor and marginalized, and especially for the youngest and defenseless innocent children in the womb.  A brilliant teacher and defender of the faith, Bishop Morlino taught about the centrality and sacredness of the Holy Eucharist, the importance of confession and devotion to the Blessed Mother.  His witness and example attracted many fine young men to the seminary and the priesthood.  He will be sorely missed.
