The Power of an Invitation

When you think of being a missionary, does your mind go straight to images of people who leave everything behind, cross the globe, and share the Gospel? You may think that you don’t have the guts, or the knowledge, or the zeal to be a missionary and lead others to Christ. Or maybe you have so many people who depend on you that you figure you have to leave evangelizing to other people. But being a missionary can begin right where you are, with something as simple as an invitation.

Recently on The Patrick Madrid Show, a listener named Laquita showed how powerful and life-changing a simple invitation can be.

She shared her story with Patrick, saying, “I just wanted to thank you so much for what you do. I had a friend – and we’re going to be getting married soon – who invited me to his Catholic Church, and I loved it. I was kind of lost and I fell in love with it. I asked him to please invite me back again, because it’s just amazing. Now I’m going to be converting and I’m just so happy.”

Laquita explained that her friend didn’t just invite her to church and leave it at that, but he also invited her to tune-in to The Patrick Madrid Show if she wanted to learn more about the Catholic faith. “He told me to listen to you on the radio because I had a lot of questions, and you’re amazing,” she said. “What you do is absolutely amazing, and you have a big part to play in my learning.”

Patrick expressed how happy that made him, and asked Laquita to share some of her background and what lead to this change in her life. She explained that she came from a Methodist background, but that she didn’t feel that she was being “fed” there.

“I just felt lost,” she said. “Like I was just in a whirlpool in the middle of the ocean where I was just sinking and drowning – to the point where I stopped going to church, period. Then he invited me and it turned my life completely around. I’m so happy. I’m taking the classes now, and I’m just filled with the Holy Spirit already. I’m just so happy, and you have a huge part in that. … Thank you so much for taking my call, and thank you again for what you are doing. You truly are reaching people out there. Believe it or not, you reached me.”
