Calling On the Queen of Heaven

Who do we turn to in times of need? As a child, you likely went to your mother for assistance, guidance, protection, and solace. As children of God, we can turn to our heavenly mother when we need help.

On the feast of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, remember that your mother desires for you to call on her for whatever you need. As St. Maximilian Mary Kolbe once said, “Never be afraid of loving the Blessed Virgin too much. You can never love her more than Jesus did.”

These are some simple ways to call upon your Blessed Mother in times of need:

Mary, help me!

If we’re frightened or in a difficult situation, there’s no one better to call on than Our Lord and his mother. Like a mother protects her child, so does Mama Mary come to our aid in times of distress.

“I’ll never forget the advice I got from a priest in the confessional. … He said, I say this out loud when I’m tempted: Mary, help me! And he says, if I’m still feeling tempted, I’ll say it even louder!” said John Harper, host of Morning Air®. “As basic as that may sound … that was a beautiful aha! And it’s something that I’ve always used and it’s a prayer that never gets ignored.”

Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

“I have faith that at that moment of death, Mary’s going to be right there taking us to her Son and begging for his mercy,” said Harper.

“That’s what we pray all the time. If you pray the Rosary, you pray it 53 times when you pray the Hail Mary: pray for us sinners now—so at this moment in my life, pray for me right now—but then pray for me at the hour of my death,” responded Fr. Edward Looney, author and priest of the Diocese of Green Bay.

There are countless stories of people on their deathbeds having spiritual experiences and seeing Jesus and Mary. “There’s that line of Fulton Sheen that he always said, that when I go before the Lord, I hope that Mary will be there with me, and Jesus will say, ‘My mother has spoken highly of you.’ And so that’s what we really hope for, that she is this advocate for us even at the hour of death, that we might transition from this life peacefully into eternity,” said Fr. Looney.

For those who do not know Her

Many of God’s children do not know their mother. Our Blessed Mother longs to lead us all to her Son. Pray for those who despairing, who are contemplating abortion or suicide, for the lonely, sick, homeless, addicted, or abused. Ask Mary to intercede for all those who need the love and gentleness of the Mother of God. We ALL need the Queen of Heaven on our side.

Our Lady, Queen of Heaven, pray for us!
