Turn to Your Guardian Angel Friend

Current circumstances are causing new levels of anxiety and loneliness. Four in ten Americans are lonelier than ever before thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, says a new survey by The Harris Poll. Depending on your situation—maybe you’re home with your entire family or you live alone; you could be an essential worker or you might not have left your house for weeks; you might be a homebody or someone who loves to go out and interact with people—you may be experiencing varying degrees of loneliness or worry.

The concern is that increases in loneliness and anxiety can have major effects on the mental wellbeing of Americans. Some survey respondents were taking measures to maintain mental health such as exercising, limiting news consumption, and reaching out to a friend or loved one. Patrick Madrid offered another way to combat those feelings of loneliness and isolation.

painting of guardian angel and childHis advice? Turn to your guardian angel. “Your guardian angel is given to you by God to help you. You know that guardian angel prayer that we Catholics learn from the time we’re little kids? … It’s a way of inviting our guardian angels into our daily lives,” said Patrick.

He referenced an article by Maura Roan McKeegan and spoke of St. Padre Pio and his relationship with guardian angels. Padre Pio was known to tell penitents to send their guardian angels to him in times of need. He understood the power of angels and wanted us to turn to them for their protection and help.

“Is the COVID-19 virus a time of need? Yes. So is this a good time, maybe, to ask your guardian angel to help you out? Yes. How about the guardian angels of your children or the guardian angels of other people who are important to you? Is this maybe not a good time to ramp up your reliance upon them, God’s ministering servants that he appoints to each one of us?” Patrick said.

We all have our own guardian angel whom we are to call upon for guidance and help. Padre Pio said, “Remember that God is inside of us when we are in the state of His grace, and outside of us when we are in grievous sin. But His angel never abandons us. He is our most sincere and trusted friend even when, through our fault, we sadden him with our bad behavior.”

In this time of anxiety, uncertainty, and isolation, remember that your guardian angel is always with you. Turn to your angel as a friend, protector, and guide.

Guardian Angel Prayer

Angel of God, my guardian dear,
to whom God’s love commits me here,
ever this day be at my side,
to light and guard, to rule and guide.
