Happy Birthday, Saint John Paul II! Today, May 18, 2020, would have been his 100th birthday. His legacy in the Catholic Church and the world is incredible. His fight for the respect of life and his focus on future generations of the Church left ripples that are continuing today, fifteen years after his death.
Saint John Paul the Great revitalized devotion to the Holy Eucharist and the Holy Rosary. He implemented the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary in 2002. He was beloved by young people in the Catholic Church and initiated the first World Youth Day in 1985, a huge gathering of Catholic youth from around the world. His beautiful and thorough teachings on human sexuality are called, “Theology of the Body.” He also travelled far and wide to reach out to all corners of the Catholic Church during his pastoral visits; he brought hope and light to the people.
“He has been a guiding father for me both, I think, while he was alive and in his sainthood as an intercessor. Because his work from Theology of the Body … and his writings on really emphasizing the dignity of the human person, both as a child, a baby, a pregnant mother, but also all the way into the last moments of a person’s life. … He is just an incredible warrior for me,” said Timmerie Geagea, host of Trending with Timmerie on Relevant Radio®.
“St. John Paul II had a significant role in the founding of Relevant Radio. As Pope, he passionately promoted a ‘New Evangelization,’ and we responded by forming a Catholic talk radio network, beginning with one single station. Now, 20 years later, that vision grew into Relevant Radio, Inc., with its programming heard on almost 200 stations reaching two-thirds of our nation, an app that’s been downloaded over 700,000 times, and an online presence that reaches the world!” said Fr. Francis Hoffman, Executive Director/CEO of Relevant Radio.
In celebration of the 100th birthday of St. John Paul the Great, Relevant Radio will feature a full day of special content about the life and legacy of this great saint on May 18, 2020. Tune in throughout the day for compelling discussions and catch Fr. Rocky’s Mass at noon CT in honor of John Paul II.
St. John Paul II, pray for us!
Some JPII inspiration for your day:
“The human being is single, unique, and unrepeatable, someone thought of and chosen from eternity, someone called and identified by name.”
“The body, in fact, and it alone is capable of making visible that which is invisible; the spiritual and the divine.”
“Do not be afraid. Do not be satisfied with mediocrity. Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”
