And so, with the Angels and all the Saints we declare your glory, as with one voice we acclaim…
Do you ever stop and think about those words when you hear them during the Liturgy of the Eucharist? So often we become distracted, worried about keeping our kids quiet, thinking about what we’ll have for lunch, or bothered by the person coughing a few pews away. We forget that we are truly in the presence of God, and his angels and saints.
If only we knew what was occurring around us, we would let ourselves be consumed by the glory and majesty of it all. We would fall to our knees in humble worship of Our Lord and God.
If you’d like a visible representation of what really happens during the Holy Mass every day in all corners of the globe, watch this stunning film, The Veil Removed. Fair warning: it may move you to tears.
Now that you’ve seen it, don’t ever forget. Not every Mass will go perfectly and you won’t always be able to have perfect attention (someone has to wrangle your toddler, after all!) but hopefully you won’t ever take for granted what is occurring around you.
The saints, many of whom have truly experienced the mystical nature of the Holy Mass, put it best:
“The angels surround and help the priest when he is celebrating Mass.” – St. Augustine
“The heavens open and multitudes of angels come to assist in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.” – St. Gregory the Great
“If we really understood the Mass, we would die of joy.” – St. Jean Vianney
“If Angels could be jealous of men, they would be so for one reason: Holy Communion.” – St. Maximilian Kolbe
What a truly incredible and amazing blessing!
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
