Where do you turn when life gets tough? What do you do when you’re thrown a curveball? Millions of Catholics find comfort, peace, and answer to prayer in the recitation of the Holy Rosary. The following story was shared by a Relevant Radio® listener on a recent episode of The Inner Life®.
Eileen in Texas says that she is a Cradle Catholic, but didn’t appreciate the Rosary until she was faced with a life event that pushed her to call on the intercession of the Blessed Mother.
9 years ago, Eileen and her husband dropped their son off for basic training for the U.S. Marines. “I didn’t know much about the Marines, I’ll be honest, and I went home and did some research and just proceeded to panic,” she recalled.
“I grabbed Rosary beads in the back of my jewelry box, pulled them out and started praying the Rosary because I thought if anybody understands my fear of my son being … in dangerous situations, it’s Mary,” Eileen explained. “For 13 weeks, every day I prayed the Rosary very earnestly. And we went down to San Diego for graduation and were surprised and delighted to learn that he graduated number one out of 406 Marines in boot camp.”
After this experience, Eileen was convinced of the power of the Rosary. “Nothing could have been more loud to me in telling me that the Rosary certainly is what gave my son the grace of doing as well as he did and telling me that I need to continue praying the Rosary.”
Despite growing up Catholic, she says she never learned a devotion to Mary. “In the last ten years, I’m understanding now how valuable it is to me, personally. I just relate as a mother, to her, and I feel she does to me.”
