What’s the most joyful day of the year? For me, it’s always Christmas Day, and the birth of Christ would not have been possible without Our Lady, so that’s why we call her “Cause of our Joy.” Mary brings Jesus, which means Mary brings joy!
Years ago I toured Frank Lloyd Wright’s Falling Waters house in Southwest Pennsylvania. It’s a sleek stone home with a waterfall running through it. How cool is that? Still, I felt something was missing in the house as we toured it. It seemed a little cold. Then, walking up the stairs, I noticed a lovely poly-chromed medieval figure of the Blessed Mother and Child tucked away in a niche in the wall. And then I spied a Spanish colonial painting of the Madonna in the Master bedroom. The house was not so cold after all. I sensed the joy that could be found there. Homes with an image of Our Lady are homes of joy and laughter.
Mary, Cause of our Joy, pray for the Church and the Nation.
On Saturdays we pray the Joyful Mysteries.
