Today we celebrate the feast of the first American citizen to be canonized a saint, St. Frances Xavier Cabrini. As a young child, Mother Cabrini wanted to be a missionary and would dress up her dolls as nuns. When she grew older, she approached Pope Leo XIII who told her to start a new order named the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart. The Pope sent her to the United States to care for the numerous Italian immigrants who had come to our shores.
