In 1789 George Washington declared a national day of Thanksgiving and prayer. Just a few months after his inauguration as our first president, he issued Presidential Proclamation number one and in it he said that it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of almighty God. In 1863, Thanksgiving was made a national day of Thanksgiving. We must not forget that we owe everything to God. God created this world, gave us life, blessed us with bountiful resources including our intelligence and abilities.
