Why You (Yes You!) Should Join the #FastforLife

Over the past few years, Relevant Radio® and Solidarity Healthshare have hosted the #FastforLife initiative – and this year it will take place on January 29th! #FastforLife is a way for those who can’t attend pro-life marches in-person to participate in the pro-life movement from home, work, or wherever they are. Over the past few years, #FastforLife has grown into a worldwide initiative, with participants from all 50 states and many foreign countries!

But why fast for life at all? Can’t we just pray for an end to abortion? Dr. Pat Castle, founder of LIFE Runners, stopped by Morning Air® this week and emphasized how important fasting is for the pro-life movement.

“We know from Scripture that when it gets really tough, when it’s really evil, Christ says we’ve got to fast. Not just pray – but pray and fast. And certainly going on 48 years of abortion in America we need to be fasting for life. So I’m all for #FastforLife.”

The pain and discomfort you feel from fasting from food allows you to unite your suffering with the unborn, with mothers facing crisis pregnancies, with post-abortive women, and with Christ on the Cross. It’s a powerful spiritual exercise that can result in abundant graces on our country.

And maybe you’re not able to fast from food, but that doesn’t mean you can’t participate! No matter how small your sacrifice, you are helping to end abortion in America when you fast for life!

What is the Lord calling to you fast from on January 29th? Here are some ideas from listeners who participated in the #FastforLife last year:

Rebecca from Wisconsin: I’m going to fast from complaining for the day, and also try to be cheerful.

Emily: As a breastfeeding mom I can’t exactly fast from food so instead I have decided to fast from all television, social media, music and make the day a time of prayer in that silence, or as close to silence as you can get with three little ones!

Paul from California: I will be praying at the Planned Parenthood facility in Pomona, CA. Our group attends Mass, feeds homeless people, and then we say the rosary at the abortion clinic every Friday (the only day they perform abortions). God be praised, Mother Mary intercede on behalf of the unborn!

Nicole: I’m going to fast from social media! And I’ll be listening throughout the day to Relevant Radio to keep up with true news of the walk. Thank you all for all you do! God bless 🙂

Deborah from Wisconsin: I am unable to fast from food, so I will only drink water on Friday.  Doesn’t really seem like much, but for me, it’s pretty huge!

In addition to joining the #FastforLife on January 29th, be sure to tune-in to Relevant Radio for inspiring pro-life programs throughout the day! We’ll be interviewing pro-life leaders, sharing testimonies, and offering ideas to build a culture of life.

And just like we do every day, we’ll pray a Memorare at the start of each hour for an end to abortion. You can add the Memorares that you pray to our Memorare Meter. We’ve already surpassed 300,000,000 but there’s no limit to the power of prayer!
