Today, the Church celebrates the feast of St. Josephine Bakhita. She was kidnapped at the age of 7 and sold into slavery. Eventually she was sold to a kind Italian diplomat who brought her to Italy, where he educated her and freed her. She remained in Italy and joined the Canossian Sisters.
