Jason Evert on John Paul II, Redemptive Suffering, and the Family

Brooke Taylor sat down with Jason Evert, author of Theology of the Body in One Hour, Pure Manhood, and Saint John Paul the Great: His Five Loves, to talk about the ministry of Pope St. John Paul the Great.

As Jason explained, our main concern as a Church is not an economic crisis, a geopolitical crisis, or a philosophical crisis. Rather, we are experiencing a crisis of saints. We lack saints, and that was Pope John Paul II’s battle cry at World Youth Day 1984. As the young people in Poland recalled about him, he was “happy and demanding”, a potent combination.

Two of the things that Pope John Paul II championed in the effort to forge saints were redemptive suffering and the inestimable value of the family.
