๐ŸŒ Should We Take the Creation Story Literally? (Father Simon Says)

Should we take it literally? Is the Big Bang heresy? And whatโ€™s up with the number seven? Letโ€™s explore with Fr. Richard Simon.

๐Ÿ“– Literal or Not? Yesโ€ฆ and No.

Some people say, โ€œIf the Bible says 7 days, then itโ€™s 7 literal 24-hour days.โ€ Others say, โ€œItโ€™s all just a myth!โ€ Fr. Simon says both extremes are missing the point.

There’s a fundamentalism on the right (every single word must be taken exactly as written).

There’s also a fundamentalism on the left (science says otherwise, so the Bible must be wrong).

Both approaches fail to actually hear what God is saying in the text.

God IS saying that He loves us and that creation has meaning beyond just mechanics. ๐Ÿ™Œ

๐Ÿ’ฅ Big Bang vs. Genesis?

Fr. Simon isnโ€™t buying the idea that the Big Bang is some kind of heresy. In fact, he thinks it fits perfectly with Genesis! ๐ŸŒ€โœจ

Genesis 1: โ€œLet there be light.โ€

Big Bang: A burst of energy and light starts everything.

Coincidence? ๐Ÿค” He doesnโ€™t think so.

Science tells us how the world was made, but Scripture tells us why. Theyโ€™re not enemies; theyโ€™re dance partners. ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ

๐Ÿ”ข Whatโ€™s the Deal with 7?

The creation story isn’t just about days; itโ€™s about meaning. The number seven is huge:

Seven symbolizes covenant, completion, and rest.

Six (the number of creation days) falls short of perfection. Thismakes sense, because our world isnโ€™t perfect!

Humanity? A โ€œmixed blessing.โ€ God made us, but… well, we all know how that turned out. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ

The point? Creation isnโ€™t complete yet. The seventh day, Godโ€™s perfect rest, is still to come.

๐Ÿ“ Genesis is Poetry, and Thatโ€™s a Good Thing!

People say, โ€œThe Bible is wrong!โ€ But Fr. Simon says this:

The Bible isnโ€™t a book; itโ€™s a library. ๐Ÿ“š

You donโ€™t walk into a library and yell, โ€œThis library is false!โ€ That makes no sense.

Different books serve different purposes: history, law, poetry, theology.

Genesis is poetry, and poetry lasts because it speaks to the heart, not just the head. ๐Ÿ–‹๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿš€ Whatโ€™s the Takeaway?

Instead of obsessing over literal vs. figurative, we should focus on what God is actually telling us:

He created us out of love. โค๏ธ

The universe isnโ€™t perfect yet.๐ŸŒโžก๏ธโœจ

Science and faith arenโ€™t enemies. God is the author of both! ๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿ™

So, next time someone asks, โ€œDo you take Genesis literally?โ€ just smile and say, โ€œI take it seriously.โ€ ๐Ÿ˜‰
