• Saint of the Day: St. Lydwine, 1380-1433; born in Holland; suffered a fall while ice skating in 1396, when a friend collided with her and caused her to break a rib on theright side; she never fully recovered; an abscess formed inside her body which later burst and caused Lydwine extreme suffering; she later suffered a series of mysterious illnesses which in retrospect seemed to be from the hands of God; Lydwine accepted her plight as thewillofGod and offered up her sufferings for the sins of humanity; she experienced mystical gifts, including supernaturalvisionsof heaven, hell, purgatory,apparitionsof Christ, and the stigmata
