Pope Leo XIV Schedules First Consistory to Approve Canonizations

If you caught The Patrick Madrid Show recently, you may have heard the exciting news: Pope Leo XIV has scheduled his first consistory, and it’s a big one.

For those who are unfamiliar with the term, a consistory is an official gathering of the cardinals, summoned by the Pope. These high-level meetings are usually private, but they pack a lot of spiritual and ecclesial significance.

It’s where major decisions are made, including:

  • The creation of new cardinals

  • Approvals of canonizations

  • Moments of consultation between the Pope and the College of Cardinals

This consistory will be focused on canonizing new saints.

At this upcoming consistory, Pope Leo XIV will officially approve the canonization of several holy men and women. These are Catholics whose lives radiated heroic virtue and who have been confirmed to have worked miracles through their heavenly intercession.

Here’s a look at some of the names that will be considered:

  • Blessed Ignatus Maloyan

  • Blessed Peter To Rot

  • Blessed Vincenza Maria Poloni

  • Blessed Maria Rensiles Martínez

  • Blessed Maria Troncatti

  • Blessed José Gregorio Hernández Cisneros

  • Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassatti

  • Blessed Bartolo Longo

From tireless missionaries and mystics, to martyrs and humble laypeople, this group reflects the beautiful diversity of the Church’s universal call to holiness.

This is Pope Leo XIV’s first consistory, and many are watching closely. It’s a sign of continuity—he’s upholding one of the Pope’s most beautiful and solemn duties. But it’s also a hint of how Leo’s papacy might shape the Church’s ongoing mission of evangelization, holiness, and hope.

Get to know these soon-to-be saints. Read their stories. Ask for their prayers. And maybe, let them inspire you to pursue your own path to holiness.

As Patrick Madrid said:

“The saints are not distant heroes—they’re family. And we’re meant to follow them home.”
