One Year Later: What We Still Can’t Get Over from the National Eucharistic Congress (Morning Air)

John Morales is joined by Msgr. James Shea from the University of Mary to reflect back on the 10th National Eucharistic Congress. Did you attend? Can you believe it’s been a whole year? This was an event that continues to ripple through the Church in America.

A Once-in-a-Generation Gathering

60,000 Catholics came together in a massive stadium. The heart of it all was Jesus in the Eucharist. Msgr. Shea called it “a front-row seat to the renewal of faith in this country.” He explains that it had been 84 years since the last National Eucharistic Congress in the U.S. The Church was overdue for a moment of unity and revival, and the nation was hungry for it.

🙏 The Moments That Defined It

Adoration took center stage.
Bishop Andrew Cousins led the opening with the Blessed Sacrament lifted high. The crowd — tens of thousands — knelt in silent, powerful worship.

Msgr. Shea summed it up in one word: prayerful. Jesus was the headliner. 🌟

Msgr. Shea’s own reflection:
Despite initial nerves, he delivered the core message of the Faith during his talk:
➤ Humanity was created good.
➤ Sin broke that goodness.
➤ God launched a rescue mission.
➤ In the Eucharist, God feeds His people with Himself — a foretaste of heaven.

🌱 Lasting Fruits of the Congress

Msgr. Shea emphasizes that the NEC ignited an ongoing eucharistic revival. Some key takeaways:

✅ He says the Catholic Church’s greatest duty is to pass on the faith to the next generation.
✅ At the center of Catholic life is “not a what, but a Who” — Jesus, truly present in the Eucharist.
✅ Only Christ can satisfy the deepest hungers of the human heart.

The NEC helped remind Catholics everywhere that no matter what happens in the world, the Eucharist makes the Catholic faith unforgettable and irreplaceable.

The call remains: keep the fire burning, share the faith, and stay anchored in the Real Presence of Christ.
