Pope Leo XIV is inviting Catholics around the world to pray throughout August for evangelization in the city, asking the faithful to bring Christ’s presence to communities where many people struggle with loneliness, isolation, and the search for meaning.

In the latest Pray with the Pope video, produced by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, the Holy Father turns his attention to the unique spiritual challenges of urban life. He prays that Christ, the Good Shepherd, will accompany those living in busy cities, especially people searching for purpose amid the distractions and fast pace of daily life.

The Pope acknowledges that cities offer opportunity and freedom, but they can also leave people feeling anonymous and disconnected from one another. He encourages Catholics to see these places as fertile ground for sharing the Gospel through everyday acts of charity, personal presence, and authentic community.

Pope Leo also prays that Christians will become missionary disciples who reach out with simple gestures of love, helping overcome indifference and isolation by building genuine relationships rooted in Christ.

The intention comes at a time when nearly half of the world’s population lives in urban areas. As cities continue to grow, many face increasing social challenges, including loneliness, particularly among young people. The Holy Father reminds the Church that these realities present opportunities for evangelization and renewed Christian witness.

The monthly prayer intention is promoted through the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, a pontifical work founded in 1844 as the Apostleship of Prayer and now active in more than 90 countries. The network unites millions of Catholics in praying for the needs of the Church and the world while encouraging them to put those prayers into action through their daily lives.
