The Vatican has released the itinerary for Pope Leo XIV’s upcoming Apostolic Journey to South America, which will take the Holy Father to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru from November 6-17.

Over the course of 12 days, Pope Leo will visit 10 cities across the three countries. The journey will include a particularly significant return to Peru, where the Holy Father spent many years serving the Church as a missionary and bishop.

Here is a look at the schedule for his journey:

• November 6-8: Uruguay
  Pope Leo will begin his journey in Montevideo before visiting Paysandú and Florida. It will be the first papal visit to Uruguay since St. John Paul II traveled there in 1988. The motto for the visit is “I bring you news of great joy,” taken from Luke 2:10.
• November 8-11: Argentina
  The Holy Father will then travel to Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Luján. The visit comes nearly 40 years after St. John Paul II’s 1987 journey to Argentina, the home country of Pope Francis. The motto for this portion of the journey is “Welcome everyone. Go and proclaim.”
• November 11-17: Peru
  Pope Leo will spend the longest portion of his journey in Peru, visiting Lima, Chiclayo, Cuzco and Pucallpa. The country holds a special place in the Holy Father’s own priestly ministry. He first arrived in Peru as an Augustinian missionary in 1985 and later served as Bishop of Chiclayo. The motto for his return is “Let us open our hearts.”

The November journey will bring Pope Leo to communities with deep Catholic roots while also returning him to a part of the world that played an important role in his own vocation and ministry.

The Holy Father is scheduled to depart Peru on November 17, concluding his 12-day journey through South America.
