Sometimes the most powerful prayers come from children who simply want their parents to be okay.
On the Family Rosary Across America, Izzy from Blaine, Minnesota, called Father Rocky with a heartfelt intention: her mother is struggling with alcohol addiction, and Izzy desperately wants her to overcome it.
When Father Rocky asked about their relationship, Izzy replied, “I’m very close. We’re like best friends.”
Father Rocky offered practical advice alongside spiritual encouragement. When her mother feels tempted to drink, Izzy could suggest taking a walk together, replacing that difficult moment with something positive.
He also encouraged Izzy and her mother to pray daily through the intercession of St. Josemaría Escrivá, asking God for the grace and strength needed for recovery.
It’s a beautiful reminder that supporting someone through addiction takes patience, love, prayer, and perseverance. Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness can become opportunities for God’s grace to work.
