The Holy Father Confirms Latin America Visit as Recovery Progresses

Pope Leo XIV is preparing for his upcoming Apostolic Journey to Latin America after receiving favorable medical evaluations following his recent surgery.

In a statement released Monday, October 26, the Holy See Press Office confirmed that the Pope will visit Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru from November 6-17, following the itinerary previously announced by the Vatican.

The Holy Father expressed his enthusiasm for returning to Latin America, a region where he spent many years of his priestly and episcopal ministry. He hopes the journey will strengthen unity among the faithful, encourage local Churches, and renew their commitment to evangelization.

Throughout his visit, Pope Leo intends to share Christ’s message of faith, hope, and peace while meeting with Catholic communities across the three countries.

Pope’s Recovery Continues

The announcement also provided an encouraging update on the Pope’s health following surgery on October 13 to remove a localized lung nodule.

According to the Vatican, the operation was successful and without complications. Follow-up examinations confirmed that the condition was localized and that no additional cancer treatment is necessary.

Dr. Luigi Carbone, who has been overseeing the Pope’s recovery, reported that recent medical evaluations indicate favorable progress. Based on the results of clinical examinations and laboratory testing, doctors have found no medical reason to prevent the Holy Father from traveling as scheduled.

Pope Leo has gradually returned to his regular responsibilities, including public appearances and important meetings, while incorporating additional rest into his schedule under medical supervision.

The Holy Father also expressed his gratitude to the healthcare professionals responsible for his treatment and to the faithful around the world who have offered prayers for his recovery.

With preparations continuing, the November journey will provide an opportunity for Pope Leo to reconnect with Latin American Catholics and encourage them in their mission of proclaiming the Gospel.
